A Knitted Mice Mobile for Baby
CyberFibres had the pleasure this summer of completing and presenting a unique baby gift to scientist, Dana Cipolla, and her husband, Mike. Dr. Cipolla’s research in the field of epigenetics helped lead to the discovery that mice with identical genetic DNA have different traits, including coat color, due to epigenetic changes. CyberFibres knitted three mice to show these coat color differences. The largest mouse is gold. In real life, the gold-coated, obese mice are the least healthy. Their mottled-colored siblings are also less healthy than their smaller, brown-coated siblings.
When the gift was presented to the Cipollas during dinner in a restaurant, a diner at another table commented, “Look at that rat mobile! Just think how I might have turned out, if I’d had that to look at as a baby.”
The Cipollas were thrilled with their unique baby gift! Baby Paul now has three wool mice to gaze up at from his crib below.
