Create a Mobile for a Family Member, Friend, or Yourself
A lovely aspect of planning a handmade fibre gift for a baby is the knowledge that you will have many months before the baby’s birth to work on the gift, as well as several weeks after his or her arrival to finish your project and get it to the baby’s parents. This is great news for fibreworkers who thrive on having the time in which to make a gift and on having a deadline! While knitted mice were made for the Cipolla’s mobile (see Feature), other motifs could readily be substituted. Think about the hobbies or professions of the baby’s parents, and choose a theme that reflects one of these interests. Then, choose the fibre approach you wish to take, e.g. knitting, crocheting, felting, sewing with fabrics, quilting, or embroidering fabric shapes. CyberFibres predicts that you will enjoy making your one-of-a-kind gift, and that the gift’s recipients will be amazed and pleased.
Beyond the baby gift concept, a fibre mobile could easily be hung in an office setting for an adult to view fondly.
