The Scarlet Letter, Historic Reproduction Needlework
http://www.scarlet-letter.com, of Sullivan, Wisconsin, has been a source of reproduction sampler designs since the 1970’s. Over two hundred designs are now available, and range from 17th century English samplers to 19th century American works. The samplers can be worked with cotton fibers or with silk, and charts are available as part of the fabric and thread kit or separately. Directions are very easy to follow, and an historical description of each sampler is provided.
The Scarlet Letter,The Scarlet Letter is also a good source for books about samplers and embroidery, most of which you will not find in a regular bookstore. Dozens of stitched and framed sampler reproductions are available for purchase, as well as a handful of antique samplers. CyberFibres purchased a reproduction sampler from The Scarlet Letter, depicting a cat and mouse design from the needlework of Mary, Queen of Scots (see photo).
The sampler kits and reproductions are carefully charted renditions of antique samplers from museums and private collections. The Scarlet Letter also carries original designs for your stitching enjoyment.
CyberFibres has found The Scarlet Letter to be an excellent source for learning about samplers and obtaining high quality fabrics and threads to make them.
