Creating detail through needle felting
Needle felting is a very different fibre experience for the fibreworker who is accustomed to the demand for maintaining a steady tension while crocheting or knitting or maintaining a steady rhythm while weaving. Needle felting is akin to appliqu?© quilting in the sense that both fibre art forms involve attaching fibre shapes onto a fibre background.
To explore needle felting, read and follow the directions available in Anne Einset Vickery's book, Needle Felting: Art Techniques and Projects (see Review) or take a workshop on needle felting for guided one-on-one learning.
Needle felting is a very economical fibre art to experiment with because the supplies required are minimal in number and in cost. A guide (book or human), small amounts of wool, a few felting needles, a piece of foam or Styrofoam, color sense and imagination will get you started. CyberFibres encourages you to give it a try
