The Knitter's Book of Finishing Techniques
Blocking is described with clarity and conciseness by Nancie M. Wiseman in her book, The Knitter's Book of Finishing Techniques. In the space of three pages, Ms. Wiseman discusses the blocking characteristics of various fibres, the best places to block your fibrework, and three blocking techniques.
Fibres commented on include wools, wool blends, acrylics, and cottons. Ms. Wiseman's descriptions remind us that successful blocking requires the fibreworker to think about the characteristics of the specific fibres that are to be eased gently to conform to the measurements needed for proper fit. The three blocking approaches reviewed include 1) the damp-towel technique,
2) pin blocking, and 3) the steaming method.
The remaining 141 pages of The Knitter's Book of Finishing Techniques are replete with information on cast ons/offs, selvages, seams, borders, buttonholes, increases, and decreases. As always, CyberFibres continues to appreciate the portable size (6 3/4" x 9 3/8") and hidden spiral binding of this book which make it so easy to carry along in a knitting bag for reference
