Sharing Needlework over the Holidays
Year's end is a wonderful time to share your needlework with fellow fibre lovers. Members of the Triangle Needlewomen of Durham, NC travel to Cary, NC each December to join the members of the ‘Busy Fingers' needlework group at Glenaire Retirement Home.
The first order of business is eating lunch together in the board room next to the dining hall. The second activity is showing completed needlework projects, and telling each project's story: what fibres were used to make it, for whom or what purpose it was made, how long it took to make, and personal reflections on the significance of the project. Many of the fibreworkers speak with fondness and gratitude of the individuals who introduced them to various forms of needleworking.
The needleworkers share knitted scarves, intricate embroidery on linen, counted cross stitch ornaments, needlepoint pictures, embellished clothing, and quilts. It is a joy to see what fellow stitchers have created, as well as an affirmation to have other needleworkers comment favorably on your own fibre work
