Drum Carding for Color Blending
Drum carding provides an efficient way to blend colors, while preparing fibre for spinning. One technique is to feed various colors of fibre through the in-feed tray to see what new colors result when the fibres blend together as they are wrapped between the tiny wires on the large drum. Another technique is to feed in your main color of fibre and then add small bits of colored fibres directly to the large drum as you turn it.
If you wish to produce a large amount of the new colored fibre blend you design, repeat the process as precisely as possible, adding colors in the same order and amounts for each fibre batt you make with the drum carder. The photo shows a finished batt of blended fibres from the drum carder.
