A Year of Teardrop Afghans
Why not crochet an afghan for your high school senior? If you finish by May, it can be a graduation present. And if you don't, it can be a going-to-college present in September! CyberFibres strongly recommends multiple deadlines for fibre workers. The afghans pictured in this issue were made by Nettie Jirtle of Algoma, Wisconsin for her granddaughter and grandson. Nettie used the booklet, "A Year of Teardrop Afghans," with designs by Melissa Leapman (Leaflet 3008) available from Leisure Arts, Inc., P.O. Box 55595, Little Rock, AR 72215. The current price for the leaflet is $7.00.
You may have reservations about sending something homemade to a college dorm room. It is true that your fibre creation may be stolen or damaged while there. CyberFibers believes that, on balance, this risk is worth the personal comfort and constant reminder of your love that such a gift would provide.
To increase the likelihood of pleasing the recipient of your afghan, consult him or her about color preferences before you begin your project. This slightly diminishes the element of surprise for your gift, but also diminishes the chances that your finished product will be stored out of sight in a closet. Use quality washable fibres, and save your handspun alpaca for a less transient environment
