Damask for a young girl's confirmation
CyberFibres chose a beautiful pink damask to make a matching coat and dress ensemble for a young girl being confirmed into the Christian faith. Since Confirmation is a solemn event as well as a joyous one, the matte finish of the floral weave represented the solemnity while the shiny finish of the background weave represented the joy of the day. The soft solid color of the damask kept the outfit from appearing too busy for the occasion.
The fibre content of the damask used was 57% cotton/43% acetate. Rayon lining fabric was used instead of polyester because it has a nicer feel next to the skin. The fabric was purchased at Mulberry Silks & Fine Fabrics, Inc. in Carrboro, NC (Tel.: 919-942-7455). The pattern used is Butterick #3415 which comes in girls' sizes 7-16 (http://www.butterick.com).
After the Confirmation service, the young confirmand was seen wearing the sheath dress, swinging happily from a tree limb outside the chapel with her matching coat folded neatly by the trunk of the tree
