Fibre Comes to the Fair
The annual state fair is a wonderful opportunity to share your fibrework with hundreds of thousands of people. Many state fairs are scheduled for the fall when harvests are in and farm animals can be shown without the uncomfortable heat of mid-summer. This timing is particularly useful for fibreworkers because it provides us with a deadline several months prior to the Christmas season. We can enter fibrework items in the fall fair, and then give them as gifts in December.
Whether or not your entry receives a ribbon, it will be viewed by people from all parts of your state. Many people over the age of eighteen prefer exhibits to rides, and make a point to look at the quilts, afghans, clothing, yarns, pictures, and other home furnishings put on display by fibreworkers each year. Your work may inspire someone else to attempt a similar project.
Just as the pumpkins and apples are grouped for viewing, fibrework is grouped as a measure of another sort of harvest. It represents a small portion of the creativity and workmanship achieved by fibreworkers in the course of a single year. Your entry will be in good company, and you will feel a sense of connection with other fibreworkers whom you do not even know.
In the event that you are fortunate enough to win a cash prize, you can spend it on fabric or fibres for new projects. Good luck
