Birth Sampler for Baby-to-be
What joyful news to learn that a baby is on his or her way! CyberFibres was blessed with this news, and immediately began searching for just the right birth sampler to stitch for the grandbaby-to-be. While it is common today for parents to learn the sex of their baby in utero, there are several weeks for stitching before this information becomes available.
CyberFibres found a counted cross stitch birth sampler that can be started before a baby’s sex is known. The pattern is called ‘Angel in the Making’ (see Review) and does not include baby’s name or birth statistics. Instead, it provides a slot for baby’s ultrasound photo and can be stitched and framed to enjoy before baby’s arrival.
The sampler honors the time when the baby is growing and becoming prepared for life outside the womb. The pattern includes a sprinkling of stars that CyberFibres suggests may be stitched in one of three ways: 1) with gold thread; 2) with a mixture of pink and blue threads; or—if the stitcher knows the baby’s sex – 3) with all pink or all blue thread.
The finished sampler can serve as a pregnancy gift for the parents-to-be or the stitcher. CyberFibres believes that, in most cases, the sampler will ultimately belong to the baby whose first black-and-white image it preserves.
